MM-- Pete/Peggy

I watched "Gone with the Wind" today, something monumental on my film watching journey and I just felt like I wanted to reflect on this entire process. I am so glad I waited this long to watch "Gone with the Wind", as I know, nine months ago, I wouldn't have appreciated this film to the degree that I did today.

I feel like, in the beginning of this process, watching older films was something I was doing for fun. I wanted to be a better film student (in my final year) and bring more knowledge to essays and discussions than I had before. I was always ashamed, as a film student, that my favourite Director was James Cameron and that I had only seen a handful of the IMDB Top 250. This process opened me up to new films, new cinematic experiences, new actors, new directors, new characters and a past that never really intrigued me until now. This has now become a passion for me, something that I know will shape the person I am going forward.

At the beginning of last year, I was looking to find myself. I started reading more, I took myself away from editing (the passion that had driven me since I was 13 years old) and decided to spend time finding out what I liked, what I didn't like and who I was. This decision to find myself was driven by a major depression that I fell into at the end of 2010. I began to doubt and question everything about myself and I wanted to be sure, going forward into a life post-University, that I was secure with the person I was. And that meant I needed some time for self-discovery.

I stumbled across watching old films purely by accident. We watched "Rear Window" and "Psycho" in our Race, Class & Genre lecture and I fell in love with Hitchcock immediately. Classical Hollywood Cinema has now become my passion. I love old films and everything about them. I spend hours of each day discovering new and interesting things about the classical actors and actresses that lived in the 30's, 40's and 50's. I also spend a lot of time wishing that I could've known Montgomery Clift, or even just met him once. I love spending time looking at photos and learning about the intimate lives of these screen legends (most of which died well before I was born).

I don't think I know myself completely yet, I feel that takes more than a year to do, but I know I'm on my way. I have gone back to editing and find myself working on videos more and more frequently (mostly old film related). I have found something that drives me, that inspires me and I love that it's shaping the person I'm becoming. While I firmly believe that my wrestling obsession helped bring me out of my depression, I know my old movie obsession is much more meaningful and will shape the person I am long-term.

New Video!!- Dropped

JP-- Ian Malcolm
It's been way too long since I last posted a video on here. I've been making them still but mostly posting to YouTube because its easier, but I really miss the LJ community! Especially since Vividcon 2010 and all the amaazing videos that were posted as a result of that wonderful convention :)

I recently finished "Dead Like Me" for the first time...and it was so amazing! The concept of the show is so beautiful executed and the characters are so flawed and wonderful to watch! From episode one I adored Mason and he continued to be my favourite character all the way through (especially in season two!). I don't really understand why the relationship between Mason and Daisy is widely neglected in fandom! Callum Blue and Laura Harris have such a natural chemistry that is evident throughout all their scenes and the way they further developed the character of Daisy through this relationship was wonderful. I know Mason is supposed to be a fairly stunted character development-wise (as Callum Blue always intended him to be) but I found he really grew through this relationship as well (especially in his devotion to Daisy towards the end of season two). It's probably just the sappy romantic in me that loves these two, but oh well.

So I am really trying to get better at this editing thing. I am in second year of a Film and TV course where I want to specialise in editing and I strongly feel that I don't have enough of a handle on this...not like some of my favourite editors do. I strongly believe in editing for yourself and in your own style and have always upheld that...but I just really want to keep moving forwards until I finally break the shackles and can make something really wonderful. This is my latest attempt at moving forward.

Basically this is about the relationship between Mason and Daisy. The snarky, cute moments...as well as some of the darker ones. I wasn't sure whether I could pull off this song (and I'm still not convinced I did) but I think it really works for their relationship. I also tried to include some individual character stuff as well as focusing on their lives as reapers as well as their little connections...such as alcohol consumption. I also tried not to cut every single beat. I am still me and really couldn't help slipping back into cutting on the beat (just because this song is so fast as well)...so I don't know. Make your own decisions here :)

New Video!!- Howl

Harper's- Jimmy/Abby
I absolutely adore this couple. I've been re-watching Angel for the last couple of months and this is definitely my favourite couple from the show. Their relationship spans four seasons of both Angel and Buffy and three centuries. Whether they are Vampire/Human or Vampire/Vampire, they're relationship is absolutely electric. When I first heard this song, I immediately knew I had to make this video.

I have gotten back into the habit of simple editing, which honestly I prefer. Let me know what you think!

Song: "Howl"- Florence and the Machine
Fandom: Angel
Program Used: Sony Vegas 8
Details: 30MB; AVI
Description: Angel/Darla. A love story spanning three centuries.

New Video!!- I Just Wanna Live

AFL-- Matt & Max
So this is another remake of an old Buffy video...except this one is a hell of a lot older. I made this video in late 2004...or maybe early 2005....it was a long time ago. The original video was awful and pointless and without any sense of direction or planning. It is kind of a bizarre choice for remastering but I was thinking about vidding the high school years and remembered this song.

This video is a general overview of Seasons 1-3. Mostly it focuses on the funny but I've tried to include all the relationships, minor characters, major storylines, recurring themes...I think this is the only video I will ever make that contains all of my favourite ridiculous Buffy things that make me love the show so much.

Such as:
- The Xander/Larry scenes about Larry's closeted homosexuality.
- The "Earshot" and "Go Fish" Johnathon interogations by Willow.
- Wentworth Miller in "Go Fish". So hilarious!
- SID THE DUMMY! I can't even begin to explain my bizarre love for that episode.
- THE END QUOTE!! This quote personifies why I love Buffy so much. Understated hilarity.

I love this show so much and I hope to continue vidding it again! :)
